A tubal reversal or tubal
ligation reversal, is a procedure in which the fallopian
tubes are reconnected and reopened in women who previously had their
tubes surgically closed through tubal ligation (tubes tied).
Tubal Reversal/Tuboplasty is an extremely delicate and precise procedure.
You have only one opportunity to have this surgery performed successfully,
it cannot be repeated. It is extremely important that you choose your surgeon
wisely, thereby giving yourself the best chance of conceiving your own baby naturally.
Dr. Kassin has extensive experience and has enjoyed great success in tubal reversal surgery.
Tens of thousands of women use a tubal ligation as their form of
contraception. There are several different tubal ligation techniques.
Your tubes may have been cut, cauterized (burned) tied, or a fallopian
ring may have been used to close your tubes. Regardless of how your tubes
were tied, it is reassuring and comforting to know that in a great majority
of patients, a successful reversal can be accomplished.
Many times in life, circumstances, situations, marital status and/or desires
in life change. There are women who at one time, thought they did not
want another child, but find themselves longing to create another life.
There are other women who have remarried or have a new partner with whom
they want to start a new family.
A tubal reversal affords nearly every woman who has had a tubal ligation the opportunity to
change her mind. A tubal reversal can restore your fallopian tubes to normal function.
A tubal reversal can enable a woman to normally conceive, carry and deliver her own baby.
Unlike Invitro-fertilization, there are no high doses of hormones needed,
no extraction of your eggs, and no outside the body fertilization. A successful
tubal reversal will enable the great majority of woman to conceive "naturally" and
"normally". In addition, the cost of a tubal reversal is about 50 to 70% less than
Invitro-Fertilization.
Dr. Kassin of Pompano Beach, Florida, uses a microscopic technique by
which each end of the tubes are reopened and reconnected using high-powered
magnifying glasses and extremely fine sutures. An incision is made just
above the pubic bone measuring approximately three inches in length. The
procedure takes an average of one and a half hours and allows you to return
home the same day. The recovery period is short, approximately three to
six days. The complication rate is extremely minimal.
Who is a canditate for Tubal Reversal?
Any woman who has had her tubes surgically closed is a candidate for a
Tubal Reversal. Some tests such as blood work and/or a pelvic ultrasound
will be necessary. It is beneficial to obtain a copy of the tubal ligation
operative report from the physician that performed the procedure. The report
will include the technique that was used to close the tubes, and may help
minimize any pre-testing. For a detailed diagram with description
